Description: Family members related to Andrew Plishka and Mary Deputan, who lived and farmed near the town of Holden, Alberta, Canada. Andrew arrived in Canada in 1912 from the village of Uhryn, near Chortkiw, in the oblast of Ternopilska, Ukraine. At that time, Western Ukraine was called Halychina or Galicia, and under Austro-Hungarian rule.Pawlo and Anastasia (Bodnar) Deputan, Mary's parents, arrived in Canada in 1902 from the village of Zviniach, oblast of Ternopilska, Ukraine. They were among the early Ukrainian pioneers who homesteaded in Alberta, near the town of Holden, south of Mundare and Vegreville. They are buried at Borschiw, site of St. John's Ukrainian Catholic Church.Other family members and relatives are buried in surrounding areas or in Edmonton and Calgary, primarily.
