Description: The Class of 1923 had 15 members: Edwin Blake, Nina (Smythe) Blake, Lena (Spangler) Cummings, William Currens, Adelle Davis, Lena (Harrison) Harlan, Lurene (Leak) Keeney, Mina (Asher) Henry, Ezra Hill, Jewell Leachman, Bruce Overstreet, Willa Fern (Montgomery) Pottorff, John Ritz, Charles Shockley and William Whisler. Classmates Edwin Blake and Nina Smythe married. (A) The 1920 Census shows a William P. Currens (age 17) living in Union Township as a foster child of sisters Elizabeth and Edith Anderson. The 1940 Census shows him living in Los Angeles. (B) John Ritz was a son of "Jap" and Florence Ritz. He was born in Cincinnati on Feb. 6, 1905 and died in East Northport, New York on July 19, 2003. (C) Although not a 1923 Lizton graduate, the well-known air pioneer Mike Murphy was a member of the class a portion of their high school years and attended their reunions.
