John D Norris - Hannah Otto Family - Wayne & Ashland Co., OH A Virtual Cemetery created by: Dave Norris
Description: This virtual cemetery includes John D. Norris and Hannah Otto of early Wayne/Ashland County, OH, and their four children.
John D. Norris and Hannah Otto were married in Wayne County, OH in 1842. Their part of Wayne County became part of the newly-formed Ashland County in 1846. By 1850 the US Census shows that they were living in Green Township, Ashland County, with four children: S.A. (Susanna), A.E. (Ann Elizabeth), V. (Vatchel), and E. (Edmund) Norris.
Hannah Norris died in 1851 and was buried in the Mohicanville Cemetery. By the 1860 US Census, the children had gone to live with other families: Susanna and Vatchel with William and Susan Cosner in McKay, Green Township; Ann Elizabeth with Eve Kauffman, in Jeromesville, Mohican Township; and Edmund with Eve's neighbors, the widow Mary Cliff and her mother-in-law, Hannah Cliff. (The Cliffs were buried in the Noggle-Cliff-Norris Cemetery south of Jeromesville, which doesn't exist anymore in its original location.)
John D. Norris is believed to be the same John Norris who married Sarah Coble in November of 1852 and had at least six children. Sarah C. Norris died in 1920 and was buried in the Yankeetown Cemetery (now called Pleasant View Cemetery). There is no John Norris buried beside either Hannah Norris or Sarah Norris; rather John D. Norris is buried in the Overton Church of God Cemetery in Wayne County, OH; and his eldest daughter, Susanna, and her husband, Job Kinney, are buried next to him.
I am a great-great-grandson of John and Hannah. I am seeking more information on either's parents and lineage. I would also be happy to hear from other family members and exchange notes and records of genealogical or family interest.
