Charter Members of Lizton Christian Church

The Lizton Christian Church was orgainized in 1837 in the home of Archibald and Sarah Alexander by Gilbert Haney, one of the church's early preachers. A 1911 history of the Lizton Christian Church by Roscoe Leak gives the following list of charter members: "The following so far as can be learned were either charter members or became members during the year 1837 - Archibald and Sarah C. Alexander, John and Elizabeth Scott, George and Elizabeth Merritt, Elizabeth W. McCroskey, Elizabeth Leak, Stephen T. and Nancy Lewis, Joseph P. and Louisa Lewis, Henry and Mary Caplinger, John and Nancy Swindler, David and Melinda Scott, Jeremiah Gowen, Philip P. and Mary Shuck, Debby Moore, Ezekiel and Mary Davidson, Angelina Davis, Nancy Griffith, Elizabeth Worly, Milton and Mary Davis, Carson and Elizabeth Sullens, Milton and Elizabeth Carrington, William and Rachel Britton, Mary Carrington, Joseph and Mary Anderson, Jugurtha and Sarah Long, Solomon and Nancy Adams, William and Elizabeth Shannon, Evalina Leak, James and Isabella Shackleford, Mary McClintock, Eliza Leak, Elizabeth Vieley, Betsy Leak, Mary Clark and Mary I.
