Description: B-24H #42-7645 482nd BG, 814th B Sq Lt J N Taylor Crew - Left from Alconbury, UK to go to Seething AAB, UK to lead a group from there on a Pathfinder Mission. It is believed that ground crews failed to provide weather reports and radio updates to the plane and its crew. Reportedly the plane and its crew were late taking off from Alconbury. The target of the Pathfinder mission was factories in Friedrichshafen, Germany. The plane encountered violent weather updrafts and was forced to leave formation in order to descend below the developing weather conditions. As a result, the plane and its crew ended up off course and over Holland, and was attacked by flak upon descent to try to land. The plane caught fire due to flak. Six airmen were killed and six bailed out successfully and were taken as POWs.
