Veldran Family

The children took the name VELDRAN from Michael VALLERAND about 1827, probably a phonetic spelling of the original French sounding surname. Michael was illiterate and had a strong French accent. When Michael said his last name to a clerk who recorded it, the name was spelled as the clerk heard it thereby resulting in many spellings. A few cemeteries have misspelled Veldran in their records, for example Valdran and Veldren.
