Description: Civilians in West Norwood Cemetery killed by enemy action. The Blitz (Sep 1940 to May 1941) - for nine long months, night after night, bombs rained down on the cities of England, claiming 43,000 lives. Later, on 13 June 1944, the Germans began launching V-1 rockets against London, resulting in a further 6,000 civilian deaths.
