2nd Battalion, 60th Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division, Recon Platoon, Company E, Vietnam Virtual Cemetery created by: Robert Fowler Description: Recon Unit. This was envisioned by Battalion Commander Fred Keith Mahaffey as a "super infantry platoon". Members of the 1968-1969 version of this platoon were for the most part handpicked by Platoon Sergeant SFC Mark Brockway. In its 4 years in Vietnam, the battalion personnel were awarded 9 Distinguished Service Crosses, 218 Silver Stars, 864 Bronze Stars and 1,685 Purple Hearts. Overall totals from "In the Land of Nine Dragons" copyright 2010. Specifically, the 68-69 Recon Platoon was awarded 34 CIBs, 2 CMBs, 10 Silver Stars, 45 Bronze Stars, 17 Purple Hearts, 23 Air Medals, 36 ARCOMs, 19 VSMs, 9 Vietnam Crosses of Gallantry and 14 VCM.
