Description: In April of 1862, over 1000 members of the 1st Alabama Infantry Regiment, lst Alabama-Tennessee-Mississippi Regiment (consolidated unit), 12th Louisiana Regiment, the 4th Arkanasas Battalion, & the 40th & 55th Tennessee Regiments, were brought to Camp Randall (in Madison, WI.), as prisoners of war...Over the next 2 months, 140 prisoners lost their lives (one prisoner was shot by a guard, the other 139 died from disease and/or their wounds. They are buried at Forest Hill Cemetery in a section known as Confederate Rest...Confederate Rest Cemetery, is the northernest Confederate Cemetery, in the U.S.
