Bernard Herman Ricker Family A Virtual Cemetery created by: kricker61
Description: Known deceased descendants of Bernard Herman Ricker are included in this "Virtual Cemetery". I would be glad to update based on information and/or add other descendants you wish to provide. Based on documentation from my family research to date, it believed that the first Ricker to arrive in in Putnam County, Ohio was Bernard Herman Ricker and his family. Better known as Herman, he was born on 7 March 1805 (17 February, 1816) in Schapen Germany, the son of Hermanni Ricker and Maria Catharina Poggen. Herman had five siblings- Joseph Henry (b. 25 Nov 1806), Maria Anna (b. 9 Feb 1812), twins Jan Jurgen and Jan Joseph (b. 14 Nov 1812) and Gerhard Heinrich (b. 14 Dec 1813) who were also all born in Schapen. Schapen Church Records 166-1875 indicated that Bernard Herman Ricker married Catherine Adelheid Kniepper on 9 April, 1834 in Schapen. Their two eldest sons, Herman Henry Ricker (b. 15 Aug 1835, d. 20 Nov 1914) and John Bernard Ricker (b. 14 Dec 1836, d. 4 Feb 1900) were born in Schapen, near Hannover Germany. Church records also indicate that before leaving Schapen, another son Johann Heinrich (b. 28 Mar 1839) and daughter Maria Theresia (b. 13 Dec 1840) were born. Herman's parents Hermanni and Maria Catharina, along with brother Gerhard Heinrich, were reported to have immigrated to America in 1841 in the book written by Lingen in 1993 entitled "Emigration and Emigrants from the former Districts to North America"; however, no information has been found to date as to where they settled. Herman's eldest son Herman Henry's obituary in the Delphos Herald indicates that his family family immigrated in 1840, landing in New Orleans, LA. They traveled by boat to Cincinnati, OH, and then by wagon to Glandorf, OH.
