Description: A fire that occurred at the Friedlander Leather Remnants factory near 3rd Street and Girard Avenue in Philadelphia, PA. A total of 13 firemen and one policeman were killed. The cause was when a portion of the building collapsed on the first responders and another collapse happened during the rescue effort. It remains the worst loss of life in Philadelphia Fire Department history to this day.
