FAIRLAWN—Joseph P. Chapman, 77, of 59 Sandford Road, died yesterday in St. Joseph’s Hospital, Paterson, after a short illness. Mr. Chapman, a native of Paterson, was former chief engineer of the State Department of Conservation and Economic Development. He left that post five years ago. He was a member of the former Entre Nous Cadet Corps and the New Jersey State Board of Engineers and Land Surveyors. Mr. Chapman is survived by his wife, Mrs. Florence Marie Chapman; a son, Jay Warren; three daughters, Mrs. James F. (Elizabeth) Carney of Mt. Lebanon, Pa., Miss. Florence Chapman at home and Mrs. James (Helen) Matthews Jr. of Ridgewood and eight grandchildren. Services will be held Monday.
