| Birth: | Aug. 1, 1914 Point Pleasant Beach Ocean County New Jersey, USA | | Death: | Mar. 10, 2011 Stamford Fairfield County Connecticut, USA | My Daddy. He and mom were married 72 years; it hardly seems possible. He always called my mom "Kid;" she was only 15 when they met. I can't believe he's gone.
My mom and dad were married on Thanksgiving, November 24, 1938. This song was played at their wedding, and I remember hearing my dad still singing it to my mom. Though Al Bowlly may have sung it better, no one ever sang it with more feeling than my dad.
♫ I love you truly" ♫
He was the last of the 4 boys and 6 girls to move gently on to Heaven. Aunt Elsie always said he was so healthy because of how well my mom took care of him. Besides mom, my brother David and me, he is terribly missed by his grandchildren Michael (Teri) Leferson, Jill (Eric) Bernstein, and Wendy (Alan) Speert, and his great-grandchildren Jacob and Nickolas Leferson, Benjamin and Abigail Bernstein, and Nathan and Hannah Speert.
He had been an active ham radio operator since WWII, (W1LUH) and delighted in passing messages through the Connecticut Phone Net. He was the founder of SARA, the Stamford Amateur Radio Association. His call sign was retired when his key was silenced. He was an enthusiastic volunteer firefighter and ambulance driver for the Springdale Fire Department, and worked at Machlett Labs in Springdale until starting his own business, Radio Communications Service Inc., installing and servicing 2-way radios for police, fire and other essential service organizations. He was a past president of both the Springdale Lions Club and the North Stamford AARP. After he retired, he went to work at Stolt-Neilson, repairing computers and other electronics. When he left Stolt, he worked into his 90's at Sunrise Assisted Living Facility in Stamford, "taking care of the old people" as he always said. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved playing "devil's advocate" in most any conversation. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. I don't know of a single person on earth who didn't like my dad.
I will miss him every day of my life until I one day join him again.
