| Birth: | Sep. 3, 1937 Waco Haralson County Georgia, USA | | Death: | Mar. 2, 2011 Dothan Houston County Alabama, USA | Marion William King was born in Haralson County, Georgia on September 3, 1937 to Olin Howard King and Doris Novalene Barrow King. He had one [still living] sister, and they were a very close family. He was called M.W. by family and friends from his early life; but later in life, he was known as Marion.
His father was a minister, and the entire family was involved in his ministry in one way or another. They were frequently heard on the radio singing well-known hymns and preaching the gospel or giving testimonies, and they were all very active in the churches that Olin was pastor at.
Marion was very active in high school. He was a top student, played on the basketball team, and was editor of the yearbook staff among other activities. He had a good sense of humor and liked to play practical jokes. He graduated from high school in 1955.
After high school, he attended Southern College of Pharmacy in Atlanta, Georgia where he received his degree in pharmacy in 1959. He was a member of the Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity while in college. He was the class president during his sophomore year.
In 1956, Marion married [still living], and they had two [still living] children. The family moved to Alpharetta, Georgia after his graduation from Southern College. He bought and ran Alpha Drugs for several years, and then he and his family moved to Panama City, Florida.
Marion and his wife divorced in 1969. At that time, he moved to Central Florida. That same year, he married again to [still living].
For a time, he worked for a company which had stores all over Central and Southern Florida. That kept him on the road much of the time as he worked in each store as needed. He finally bought Garden Pharmacy in Titusville, Florida, and the family was able to settle in Titusville. Later, he moved his family back to Panama City, Florida.
In the 1980s (I'm not sure of the year), the family moved to Chipley, Florida where Marion bought Chipley Drugs. He and his wife ran that store until he retired in 2010. He was very proud of the fact that he had worked a total of 51 years as a pharmacist. He loved his job, and he loved helping people in whatever way he was able to.
Over the years, he battled Heart Disease and Diabetes. In the last years of his life, he was diagnosed with and battled an aggressive form of Prostate Cancer. He passed away on March 2, 2011 in a Dothan, Alabama hospital, and he is buried in Chipley, Florida. His obituary incorrectly states that he is buried in Glenwood Cemetery in Chipley, Florida. He is buried in Wachob-Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery.
At the time of his death, he had four children and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was very much a "people person", and he is greatly missed by family and friends.
