He ultimately married, bought land, and settled in the Town of Hopewell, Ontario County, NY.
Jacob married Mary Newman, a daughter of Elisha Newman, on March 2, 1826. They had three sons and three daughters: Mary Ann b. 1827, Elizabeth b. 1828, Susan b. 1830, Leonard b. 1833, Newman b. 1841, and Abraham b. 1843.
They also had an adopted daughter, Mary Jane b. 1851. Mary Jane married first James Smith and then John Chism.
