She married Alfred Wayne McKim on March 17, 1840 in Spencer Co., IN. Alfred was the son of Robert McKim and Elizabeth Tate/Tait. The couple moved to Appanoose Co., IA. in 1851 and then to MO., in 1856. To this union ten children were born; Nellie (d. aged 6 in south MO., while the family was traveling by covered wagon.), Robert (d. in early childhood), John David, Sarah (d.in early childhood), Taylor (known as "General"), Elizabeth Jane, Daniel Bryant, Hiram (d. in childhood), Alfred Hiram, and Margaret. Margaret and Alfred Wayne were married nearly 70 years before death parted them.
Family stories passed down relay that Margaret loved candy, wore black bonnets, smoked a corn cob pipe, and went by "Granny". She lived a tough pioneer life that was made easier by the love of her family and her strong Christian faith.
