Birth: Sep. 5, 1884, Canada
Death: Feb. 12, 1984

Walter Harris better known to many as "Uncle" was born September 5, 1884 on the Canadian side of Niagara Falls He was the oldest of the four Harris brothers. His single-parent mother had to force him to quit school in the sixth grade to help support the family.

One of his many jobs as a boy was delivering newspapers. His paper route included a hotel and one day while he was making his route he found a five dollar bill on the porch of this hotel. He quickly stuck it in his pocket and thought to himself, I am going to have some fun with this money! Much to his dismay, one of his brothers had seen him pick up the money and pocket it. His brother promptly ratted him out to his mother and he was forced to surrender it to her.

He fell in love with a baby his nephew and wife gave birth to in Oneida, N.Y. on May 17th, 1937 named Patricia or as he liked to call her "Patty Ann". His nephew and wife divorced when Pat was only a year old. Fearing that he might not see her much, He took in Pat with her mother and raised her as if she were his own daughter.

Uncle loved to spoil Pat. They loved to ride trains to New York City and take in the Broadway shows. As the years past, He continued to spend as much time with Pat and her family as he could. He would ride the bus to Fayetteville every Sunday to see them. Eventually he moved in with them when they relocated in Patterson, N.Y. at the age of 90. He spoiled her kids rotten. Taught them to tell time, ride a bike, play poker, bowl and sing songs from his past. His favorite song he loved to sing was "Bicycle Built For Two"

Uncle loved all animals and they always adored him. It was rare when you didn't see a Cocker Spaniel following him around as he puttered through his day.

He shoveled the driveway and took out the garbage right up until he was 99! He never learned to drive a car but he sure did put a lot of miles on his bicycle!

When you went to visit him, his house was like the "Ginger Bread House" filled with every treat you could imagine. Everyone, even his neighbors all called him "Uncle". He always made you feel special.
