| Birth: | Jun. 24, 1847 Beallsville Montgomery County Maryland, USA | | Death: | Oct. 30, 1868 Austin Lander County Nevada, USA |  Born in Maryland but came out to Nevada just as the Civil War was starting as his family were Union people in a mostly pro-Confererate State. His family ran a bakery in Gold Hill but in 1865 Joseph moved out to Austin, Nevada, to work at a cattle ranch. It was there in Oct 1868 he contacted a fever (brain fever) and died on Oct 30th, 1868, at age 21. His family had his body shipped to Gold Hill and he was buried in the local cemetery on Nov. 10th, 1868. His family stayed in Nevada until the middle of the 1870s when they moved to California.
