Anna(Betty) Givens married Norman(Tommy) F.THompson in 1929.
She was an Army wife and they had three daughters, Carla,Betty and Linda. In the 1950's her and Tommy started traveling. After Tommy died she stayed in Zapata,Tx and did the things she did while Tommy was alive. They loved to rock hunt and she would go out in the fields and find rocks bring them back to the house, an cut and polish them and make jewelry out of them.
Her other favorite thing to do was RATTLESNAKE hunting,, I dont know how many times when i would visit her, we would go hunting.. She would get her hoe which she had sraightend out and sharpened to knife edge like.. and we would get in the car. she would sit on the hood of the car in her boots and her gun on her side and hoe in hand. I would let the car barely move , I should have told you we did this at dust. The snakes come up to the pavement to stay warm and she would get them. if they were small to medium size she would use the hoe on them cutting off the head, then she would cut the rattlers off. and put the snake in a burlap bag.. if the snake was big 8 to 10 ft. she would shoot it. and do the same thing. when we got them home she would clean the snakes and put them in the freezer. . Once a year at the rattle snake roundup, she would take all the snakes and sell them to skinners..
She did many more things just as exciting. she was truely a unique person who was a giving and loving person.
I tried to get her to live with me in Florida , but until she was ready she always said no. the last four years of her life though she did live with us. and i treasure those years.. with her..
Anna's Mother was Maude Mae Clanton Givens and her Father was Sheridan Givens. Anna died in 1989 of COPD.

Rest in sweet peace, Anna. You are being remembered today and will not be forgotten. Loved reading your memorial and what a special person you were. Imagining your snake hunts and the courage to do so.|
