Emma was the daughter of "Gustav" Wilhelm Burghard Jorns and Julia Ann Jones. She married William Thomas "Tom" Burtis 23 October 1879 in Auburn, Sangmon Co., IL. Their children were Jessie Burtis, Frederick "Fred" William Burtis and Minnie Leona Burtis Van Fleet. Their adopted children were Harold Tenny and Adeline "Addie" Tenny English. Emma died from burns during the depression so asked to be buried in Wise Co., Texas, rather than in Perkins, Oklahoma, next to her husband.
