Jennie Lynn Carroll was born on September 19, 1882 to Amanda Simmons Carroll and Daniel Boon Carroll. Jennie was the sixth of fifteen children in this family. She grew up on a farm located on Everman Creek in Grayson, Carter County, Kentucky. At the age of 24, she married her true love, Clarence Elmer Gifford in Huntington, West Virginia. They were blessed with three children: Wandergold Amanda, Rubie Mae, and Clarence Elmer Jr. Jennie and Clarence settled on a farm in Wayne County West Virginia. She has been described as an "angel on earth" for her kindness and selflessness. She helped raise her brother's two children, Thelma and Wilma in addition to her own. She always had a kind word and her home was open to anyone who needed it. She was a housewife her entire life. She died on September 4, 1953 in Huntington, Cabell County, West Virginia at the age of 70.
