Albert Woodrow Smith was a veteran of World War II joining the military on October 15, 1940 in Atlanta, Georgia he served throughout the remainder of the war.
When World War II ended Albert returned home to America and worked in the cotton mills in Georgia and Tennessee until the Korean Conflict heated up so Albert joined the service again.
Albert was always a military man and never cared for civilian work which may have been something to do with his hard childhood growing up working the cotton mills and sharecropping with his father who died young in 1926. Albert's mother was a strong woman who would not tolerate idleness plus she had to feed eight children so the boys were put to work farming.
Albert's mother always told the story of when she knew Albert had been killed in Korea she said she was in her kitchen washing dishes and heard footsteps come up the walk and then heard the words "Goodbye Mom".

He was taken Prisoner of War while fighting the enemy in North Korea on November 30, 1950 and died while a prisoner on June 30, 1951.
