Civil War Union Army Officer. Served in the Army of the Potomac for all of its campaigns within the 7th New Jersey Volunteer Infantry, Capt. Co. C, Sept 5, 1862; Maj. Feb 23, 1865; Lieut. Col. vice Price promoted; Lieut. Col. April 9, 1865

Post Civil War, Officer of "Buffalo Soldiers": 1st Lt, 40th Infantry Jan 22, 1867, Transferred to Co G, 25th Infantry Apr 20, 1869, Capt, Co F. 25th Infantry Nov 30th 1873.

Brevet Captain U.S. Army for gallant & meritorious service for actions at Gettysburg July 1-3 1863, Brevet Major U.S. Army for gallant & meritorious service for action during the Battle of the Wilderness May 5–7, 1864.

Served as commanding officer at Fort Quitman and later Fort Stockton, Texas.

Originally buried at the Fort Stockton Cemetery. Reburied May 24, 1881.
