My grandmother was a wonderful piano player. She was the pianist for Big Hammock Baptist Church in Leander, LA from 12 years of age (1913) to apprx. 1998 - the time of her first stroke. She taught numerous children and adults how to play the piano (she was self taught, having 1 or 2 lessons from a teacher in early 1910). Delia was also a mathmatical wizzard, though few knew this. She would show her grandchildren how to work on geometry, algebra and trig. She was also a knowledgeable cattlewoman, raising many head of cattle in her lifetime. She loved to garden and had a beautiful yard full of flowers. Delia was a wonderful seamstress, sewing many wedding dresses, pagent dresses and other clothes for the ladies she knew. She could take newspaper and trace out an original pattern for you, and sew the most beautiful clothing. My Grandma was a wonderful Christian lady that made the best corn bread and purple hull peas, was a rather shy lady that rarely ever spoke ill of another person, and had the softest touch on the piano. She was so well liked by all that knew her, and is terribly missed by her children, grandchildren and many friends. We love you, Grandma, and will never forget you.
Thank you r77ortiz for sponsering my Grandmother's page. And thank you to everyone that leaves flowers. She would be most over-whelmed.
