He married Rexine Copp in 1945, they have four children, Rex, Sharyn, Robert and Richard (identical twins). Divorced in 1959, he married a second time in 1972 to Shirley (Verdieck) Cook. George was forced to retire from Southwest Freight Lines in 1985 after twenty-six years. He was a staunch Union man, working as a Teamster most of his life.
He loved to travel and took his children, later grandchildren on many trips throughout the United States. One notable trip was to Alaska in 1963, where his four teenagers flew above the Arctic Circle.
George died at the V.A. Hospital in Leavenworth, Kansas after a brief illness.
He was preceded in death by his parents, all his brothers and all but one sister; two grandchildren, Shaleen and Matthew Sanchez and a great-grandson, Johnathan Robert Sanchez.
