Bee, born in Joplin, Mo., January 1, 1919, to William Clifford and Pearl (Hampton) Payne, was united in marriage December 20, 1942, to William L. "Bill" Stewart.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill Stewart; son, (Pro-Golfer) William Payne Stewart; brothers, William, Ernest and Ralph Payne; and sisters, Hazel Schartzer and Helen Woolsey.
Survivors include her two daughters and their families, Susan Stewart Daniel and husband, Dan; Lora Stewart Thomas and husband, Jim; daughter-in-law, Anastasia Ferguson Stewart; grandchildren, Alice Jane Wood, James Stewart Wood, Amy Nicole Thomas, William Stewart Thomas, Chelsea Stewart, and William Aaron Stewart; and great-grandchildren, Alexander Payne Stewart and Savannah Jane Samuels.
Bee was a community leader, active in the Democratic Party and women's issues. She was a founding member of the local League of Women Voters and the first female chairman of the Springfield Park Board. She was a passionate supporter of the Family Violence Center and Planned Parenthood. Bee was a strong women's rights advocate and SMSU Athletics booster.
