The son of Frank Paul Reithmeyer and Mary Anna Miller, both of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Charles came into this world on June 13, 1906, in Washington, D.C. He was the brother of Marie Elizabeth Reithmeyer Ellis Bradley, Joseph R. Reithmeyer, Paul Reithmeyer and Francis Paul Reithmeyer.

He married Marion Kraft but sadly that union dissolved although they remained friends and he made sure she was always taken care of. His second marriage was to Grace Mary Fox.

He was a successful businessman. He bought and developed real estate and he owned several gas stations as well as Freddie's Liquor Store, Forestville Sand and Gravel Company and Flower Village Mobile home park but his main passion was his thoroughbred horses in which he bred and raced. He was an appointed member of the Maryland-Bred Race Fund Advisory Committee with the Maryland Racing Commission and was on the committee of the Maryland Horse Breeders Association. In the 1960's he made front cover of the Maryland Blood Horse magazine with an article about him.

He divided his time at his home in Florida, his farm, Potomac View, in Issue, Maryland and his home in Forestville, Maryland before settling in Dunkirk, Maryland in semi-retirement.

He passed away March 18, 1992, at Greater Southeast Community Hospital in Washington, D.C. leaving behind his loving wife, Grace Mary Fox Reithmeyer; his only daughter, Marie Elizabeth Reithmeyer Boteler and her husband Donald F. Boteler and his two sons, Charles Edwin Jr., his wife, Rebecca Tippett Reithmeyer and Francis Paul Reithmeyer. He also left behind eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Pop, I miss your love and passion for life and your giant bear hug squeezes.
