Her birth name was Jennie but she asserted after seeing an elephant named Jennie at the circus that was "huge," she changed her name to Jane, although no official document showing this was done has been located outside of the one showing the family name being changed from von Pein to Pine in 1918 where she does show as "Jane." Graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a journalism degree in 1919, where she was a Chi Omega. Her date of death was her 100 1/2 age mark to the day and would have been her husband's 102nd birthday.
