Roger Garwin "Ole" Phillips was born on the Phillips ranch on Cedar Mesa east of Cedaredge, Colorado. His parents were Victor A. and Norma Blanche (Baker) Phillips. He was the second of their three sons. His brothers are Richard B. Phillips and Robert E. Phillips. On February 13, 1942, Ole married Amy Lucille Williams at his parents' home in Cedaredge. Amy and Ole lived in Cedaredge until his death.
Ole was a mechanic by trade. After graduating from Western State College in Gunnison, Colorado, he returned to Cedaredge to work with his father in the family business, a gas station and auto repair garage. After his father's death, Ole expanded the business to include the Ford/Ferguson tractor dealership. Later, when Ford and Ferguson split, Ole maintained his relationship with Ferguson, and eventually became the Massey Ferguson dealer.
In the early 1950's, the business was moved to Delta from Cedaredge. Ole and his brother Bob partnered, with Ole running the "shop" and Bob the sales end of the business. Together, they ran Phillips Auto and Implement until the 1980's.
Children are Mary Lynn Phillips Williams and David E. Phillips (Vicki). Grandchildren are Shawn Phillips, Lori Wallace Antczak (Ryan), Shannon Phillips Leonard (Sean), and Derek Williams (Stephanie). Great Grandchildren are Brittany and Blaine Phillips, Nick Wallace and Conner, Gavin and Averi Antczak, Hayden, Dillon and Kendra Leonard, and Taylor, Payton, Jordan and Logan Williams.

Growing up, we always knew Dad could fix anything. Broken roller skate? Doll lost its arm? Don't cry. Daddy'll fix it! Leaky faucet? Lamp doesn't work? Don't worry. Dad will take care of it! Dishwasher spewing water all over the floor? Got a lot of wet laundry in the dryer that won't work? Don't panic! Call Dad! It didn't matter whether it was something wrong with the car or the plumbing, something electrical or mechanical. He could fix it. All I have to do is look around my house, my yard, or my car, and I can see dozens of things he built for me, repaired for me, or installed for me.
In October, Mom and Dad went to Fort Worth with me to visit Derek and his family. On the way down, Dad kept hoping there would be something he could do to help Derek. As luck would have it, Derek was having trouble with the emergency brakes on his Suburban. Derek and Dad spent our last day there repairing the brakes. At the end of the day, the two of them were covered in grease from head to toe and very tired (especially Dad) - but happy to have spent the day working together again.
On December 9, Dad spent the morning putting up a light for Mom in the kitchen. After lunch and an early afternoon nap, he started putting up their outdoor Christmas decorations for their neighbors to enjoy, but before he was done, it was time to go to Delta for a sandwich at Subway. It was a good day.
I like to think that when Dad approached the Pearly Gates, he said to Saint Peter, "Do you have anything that needs fixed?" And that Saint Peter handed Dad a long list of stuff they'd been saving for him to fix. That would be my Dad's idea of Heaven.

On December 9, 2003, my Dad had a heart attack while locked in the restroom at that Subway restaurant in Delta, Colorado. He died on January 11, 2004.
