Funeral service for SSG ( US Army Ret.) Odis Delbert Whitaker, 84, will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 31, 2012, in the Chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington, officiated by LTC Mike Hardeman. Interment will be held at 11 a.m. at Ft. Jackson National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 8:30 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

SSG Whitaker passed away Monday, October 29, 2012. Born in Swansea, SC, he was a son of the late Henry Asbury Whitaker and Ethel Gertrude Wise Whitaker. He was retired from the U.S. Army where he was a Veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Whitaker also worked in the Meathouse in West Columbia.

Survivors include: sisters, Wilma Rediske of Seattle, WA, Ruby E. Bradney of Lexington, Zelma Tumlin of Riverdale, GA and Elise Humphries of Blythewood; brothers, 1SG (US Army Ret.) Louie W. Whitaker of Chapin and SSG (US Army Ret.) Burnette O. Whitaker of West Columbia. He was preceded in death by a brother, Stacey A. Whitaker.
