She was the daughter of Zachariah Smith and Susiann Miller. She first married Riley Johnson 5 Feb 1878 in Dallas Co., IA. She then married Edward L. Arterburn 5 Feb 1889 in St. Joseph, Buchanan Co., MO.

Dies at Home in Maitland

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon at the Campbell funeral home at Maitland for Mrs. Mary Amanda Arterburn, 92 years of age, who died at 12:15 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at her home in Maitland. Burial will be in the Graham cemetery. The Rev. William Hughes, pastor of the Christian church, will officiate.

She was born December 27, 1856, at Salem, Ind., and had resided at Maitland since 1881. She was married to Edward L. Arterburn, who preceded her in death.

Her father, Zachariah Smith, was a teamster of the Union Army during the Civil War and fought in the battles of Vicksburg, Miss., and Look Out Mountain. Because of illness, he was discharged in 1864. Her grandfather was born the day following the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1777 and died in 1876 at the age of 99 years.

Survivors include two sons, Arthur B. Johnson and Lloyd L. Arterburn, and one daughter, Mrs. Nellie Weidner, all of Maitland. The body is at the Campbell Mortuary at Maitland.
