Julian was born in Yatesville, Upson Co., Ga on 20 Oct 1896, the only son of John J. Arnold and Mary Josephine Smith Arnold. He was a very intelligent young man as evidenced by his attaining a BS degree in Civil Engineering from Georgia Tech before he reached the age of 20. He married Lillian Dake of Douglasville, Georgia in January 1918; served as an Army Air Corps gunnery observation officer in the WWI and as a member of the Navy CB's (Construction Battalions)in WWII. During the latter conflict, three of his sons served in the Navy and one son in the Army to make the Arnolds a "five-star" family. All members returned from the war safely. Following his military service, Julian worked as an accountant for the Georgia State Revenue Department. Julian passed away on 8 May 1967.
