I thank you and so many others for being part of my life. From ranching to teaching to retirement, I have a life full of memories.

Former longtime Sandy resident, Charles T. Lane, age 102, died last Monday at a Portland retirement center where he had resided for the past 7 years. A Funeral Service will be held at the Community Presbyterian Church in Sandy on Saturday, October 27, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. A private burial will follow at Cliffside Cemetery. A viewing will be held on Friday at Sandy Funeral Home from 2:00 until 4:00 and prior to the service at the Church.
He was born on June 24, 1910 in rural Hayes County, Nebraska, the youngest in a family of six children. He grew up on a cattle ranch in Arthur County, Nebraska and graduated from Arthur County High School in 1930, and from Kearney State Teacher's College at Kearney, Nebraska.
Moving to Sandy in 1941, he began a lengthy teaching career at Sandy Elementary School, teaching eighth grade most of the time. He also was a principal, bus driver, sport's coach and school activities coordinator. Charles also was involved in community affairs, such as helping secure Sandy's first fire truck.
On Feb. 21, 1942, Charles T. Lane married Nellie A. Clapp. During World War II, Pvt. Lane served with the 4th Infantry Division in the European Theatre as a front-line medic. After retiring from the Sandy public school system, Charles took some jewelry-making classes at Mt. Hood Community College. He ended up working part time for 13 years as a jewelry lab supervisor at Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham from 1976 until 1988.
Surviving is his wife of 70 years, Nellie; his three daughters; 8 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren
