Harlen D. Baucom, age 79, long-time resident of Porter, a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather and uncle, passed away Tuesday morning, October 23, 2012 at Solara Hospital in Muskogee, OK. Harlen was born on April 21, 1933 in Broken Arrow, OK and was the son of Arvil John and Velda Marie (Reynolds) Baucom. Harlen received his education in Broken Arrow schools. Harlen and Joann Thomasson were united in marriage on June 26, 1950 in Wagoner, OK and they were married for 62 years. Harlen worked as a self-employed roofer for most of his life until he retired in 1995. Harlen was an avid reader and he enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Harlen is lovingly survived by his wife of 62 years, Joann Baucom of the home in Porter; his two sons, Frank Baucom and wife, Mary, of Porter and Eddie Baucom of Porter; his two daughters, Leona Williams and husband, Jerry, of Porter and Lanette Dale and husband, Jerry, of Haskell; his three sisters, Judy King of String, OK, Joyce Copeland of Coweta and Donna Meeks of Broken Arrow; 14 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Harlen was preceded in death by his parents, Arvil John Baucom and Velda Marie Baucom, one son, Terry Baucom, three brothers, two sisters and one granddaughter.
Funeral services for Harlen are scheduled for 10:00 AM Friday, October 26, 2012 at Wright-Brown Funeral Home Chapel in Coweta, OK with Rev. Bobby Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Porter, OK. Pallbearers are John Thomasson, Sr., Mike Baucom, Matt Williams, Joe Baucom, Keith Baucom and Brian Baucom.
