At her home in Newburg township, Pike county, Illinois, Friday, May 5th, 1899, after a brief illness, the soul of Emily Williams passed into eternity.

She was a dutiful daughter, wife, and mother, and a true Christian in everything the world implies. While quite young, she united with the M. E. church at Detroit, Illinois.

She was born on the 15th of May 1857 in Methley, Yorkshire, England, and at the age of nine years, came to this country with her parents John and Mary Stephenson. She was married on December 11th, 1881, to J. W. Williams, and born to them was a son and daughter, Walter and Mary, who are both living, and are left to mourn an affectionate mother. She also leaves a husband, four brothers, and her aged father.

The services were held at Blue River cemetery, on Sunday, May 7th, 1899. The entire community extended to the bereaved family their kindest sympathy, but especially do our hearts go out to the aged father, on whom the blow falls with crushing force.

- The Pike County Democrat, Pittsfield, Illinois; 12 May 1899.
