James Adkins, 47, died July 27, 1977, in St. Elizabeth Hospital where he had been hospitalized three weeks. Born and reared at Somerset, KY, he moved to Lafayette in 1947. In 1952 he was married at Fowler to Norma J. Holland and she survives. He was a maintenance supervisor at Lucky Steer Steak House before retirement four years ago due to ill health.

Surviving with the wife are a son, Michael S. Adkins of Lafayette; his father and stepmother, Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Adkins of Somerset, KY; seven brothers, Edward Adkins of Center Moriches, NY; Victor and Charles Adkins, both of Greenwood; Sherman and Lawrence Adkins, both of Indianapolis; Lee Adkins of Fairland; and Buell Adkins of Brownsburg; and three sisters, Mrs. Beulah Bullock of Fairland; Grace (Mrs. Curtis) Whitaker of Indianapolis; and Sylvia (Mrs. Steve) Boggs of Bedford. Service July 29 in Hippensteel Chapel, Pastor Dick Baker officiating; internment Tippecanoe Memory Gardens.
