LEE [Berkshire Co.], Mass.—Madeline Spellman Alfred, age 83, of the Laurel Lake Center for Health and Rehabilitation in Lee, Mass., former long time resident of Ormond Street in Albany died on Saturday evening, October 31, 2009 at the Rehabilitation Center. Madeline was born in the Bronx and resided in Schenectady for several years and most of her life in Albany. She was a graduate of the Oneonta State Teachers College and was special needs reading teacher at the Giffen School in Albany. She was a former member of Temple Israel in Albany.

Madeline was married to Leonard Alfred until his passing in 2002.

She is the mother of Lawrence Alfred and his wife Susan of Guilderland, N.Y., Charles (Chip) Alfred of Philadelphia, Pa., Steven Alfred of Albany and Amy Greenebaum and her husband Bob of Highland Park, Ill.; sister of Augusta (Gussie) Liebowitz and her husband Dr. Eugene Liebowitz of Pittsfield, Mass.; grandmother of David Alfred, Jamie and Luke Greenebaum and the late Jason Alfred. Madeline also leaves many nieces and nephews.

Services at the Levine Memorial Chapel, 649 Washington Avenue, Albany, N.Y. on Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow in the Temple Israel Cemetery in Guilderland, N.Y. The period of mourning will be observed at the home of Lawrence and Susan Alfred, 224 Bentwood Court West in Guilderland, N.Y. on Wednesday November 4.
