Obituary for Kenneth DeVore

Kenneth Irvin DeVore, 85, of Corydon, passed away peacefully in his home Saturday, October 31, 2020.

Kenneth was born to Leonard and Edra (Mead) DeVore on December 23, 1934 in Seymour, Iowa. He attended Seymour High School and graduated in 1952. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Colleen Hibbs December 28, 1954. They were married 53 years until Dorothy's death in November 2007. From this union five children were born, Kathy, Kristen, Dorine, Denise, Martin.

Kenneth and Dorothy lived on their farm south of Seymour for most of their years of marriage. Kenneth was active in the Seymour Christian Church, serving as Deacon, Elder, Trustee, and Board Chairman. He especially enjoyed cooking Easter morning breakfasts for his fellow parishioners. Kenneth served for the Iowa National Guard in 113th Armored Unit Red Bull 34th Division from 1953 – 1963, obtaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was also a member of the Seymour American Legion. Kenneth and Dorothy moved to Corydon in 2004 after retiring from farming. They enjoyed dancing and traveling until Dorothy's passing. Kenneth later served as a board member at the Senior Meal Site. Known for his kindness and easy smile, he always had a joke to tell or he found a friend to tease. He enjoyed playing cribbage, watching birds, and cooking. His brownies were a family favorite and the grandkids always took a few home with them from Grandpa's kitchen. His family breakfasts were legendary, and he would often have a small smile on his face watching everyone visit around the kitchen table. Kenneth was known for his love for family, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Kenneth is survived by his children and their spouses, Kathy (Carter) Heitmeyer, Kristen (Ken) Kruger, Dorine (Dan) Sales, Denise (Brian) Draper, and Martin (Rochelle) DeVore, grandchildren Tara (Tino) Terrones, Tonya Ward, Stephanie (Mitch) Lancaster, Jennifer (Brandon) Jasper, Ashley Whisler, Ryan (Bailey) Sales, Brett (Sadie) Draper, Brock Draper, Melette DeVore, Maryn DeVore, and Holden DeVore. His great-grandchildren Tino, Sam, and Brinley Terrones, Finn and Oliver Ward, Brayden and Raelynn Lancaster, Charlotte and Maxton Whisler, Toryn Sales, Savannah and Wyatt Draper. His sister Donna Caldwell, sisters-in-law Betty DeVore, Mildred DeVore, Beulah DeVore, Donna Davis, many nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends. He was proceeded in death by his wife Dorothy, parents, great grandchild, Eli Ward, brothers: Roger, Leslie, Lawrence, Keith, and Nile DeVore and a sister, Ruth Keller. Brothers-in-Law Ernest Keller, Dwight Caldwell, Milan Davis. Sisters-in-Law Anna Lou (DeVore) Swan.
