Juan Peñalver Laserna was a Spanish artist, writer, musician, and poet. He was born in Honrubia, Cuenca, and at a very early age moved to Barcelona. This "Renaissance Man" lived briefly in Cartagena,Colombia, where in 1958 he founded the Teatro Experimental de Cartagena. He also lived in the United States in the early 1970's.

He was a published author, contributing to the journal El Ciervo in Barcelona, and authoring works such as Mi antología de Indias, Puerta de oriente ; El otro canto :poemas ; El juego del retrato : teatro, Antología de Europa, Primera antología, Bola Negra y los pálidos, El poeta amerillo, Antología del viaje, Piénsame vivo, Rama, La viuda de los grillos, Los hijos del profesor de griego, El sol enterrado, and Ese hombre llamado actor.

Juan Peñalver Laserna was also a painter, using unconventional techniques such as using spray paint and painting on driftwood.

He resided briefly in New York City, where he taught Spanish at Hunter College, painted, and died under mysterious circumstances in a Chelsea apartment in April, 1977.
