Enlisted for the duration of the war 7/6/1861 in Randolph County, AL, he traveled to Montgomery, AL, where on 7/19/1861 he was mustered into Company D,13th Alabama Infantry, as 3rd Corporal.
Present on all Rolls from enlistment until admitted on 5/13/1862 with chronic diarrhea into Chimborazo Hospital #4, Richmond, VA; transferred 5/18/1862 into nearby Camp Winder Hospital; died there.

The 13th Alabama Infantry Regiment completed its organization in July, 1861, at Montgomery, Alabama. Men of this unit were from the counties of Coosa, Wilcox, Macon, Butler, Talladega, Montgomery, Randolph, Elmore, and Tallapoosa.
