He was born in Joliet and a lifelong Joliet area resident. A graduate of Joliet Central High School, Class of 1966.
Jerry was employed at Jewel Food Stores (Route 59 at Caton Farm Road) as a produce manager for the past 12 years.
He formerly worked at the A&P Food Store where he also was a produce manager for 16 years.
Jerry attended the Messiah Lutheran Church for many years.
His greatest loves in life were spending time with his family, he enjoyed fishing and being a workaholic. Jerry was very proud of his entire family, his wife the love of his life, his son who was his strength, his two adopted daughters and his two foster children; and soon to arrive as a Christmas present to the Chaplin Family is their third adopted daughter, Alexanndria.
Survived by his loving and devoted wife of 44 years, Ann Marie (Nee Sylvester) Chaplin of Joliet; one son, Steven Michael (Samantha) Chaplin of Lexington, KY; two daughters, Stacy L. (Edward) Darby of Channahon and Andrianna Dominique Chaplin of Joliet; five grandchildren, Dominic "Nicky" Chaplin, Matthew, Jacob and Shelby Darby and Roman Chaplin; two brothers, Ronald (Kathy) Chaplin of Joliet and Robert (Nicole) Chaplin of Morris, IL; four sisters, Shirley (Tom) Koscik of Channahon, Donna (Bob) Morris of MN, Judy Johnson of Braidwood and Debbie (Leon) Trimmer of Plainfield; his faithful canine companion, Karlton; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Funeral Services: Saturday, September 29, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home chapel, with Rev. David Nygard officiating.
As it was Jerry's final request, Cremation Rites have been accorded.
Visitation Saturday 1:00-3:00 p.m. at Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, Joliet.
