Her mother died in 1888 when Amy was 2 years old and she was raised by her mother's sister, Rose Mathews Carr and her husband Fred Carr, who had no children. She was married 12 Feb 1921 in Minneapolis to Morton Grant Smith who was born 1880 in Penn. They were married only 6 1/2 years when Grant died the 6 Nov 1927 in Minneapolis. They had no children. She is buried next to her husband, aunt Rose and uncle Fred Carr. Amy's brother, Walter Thayer, is also buried there.
