Eldest son of Joseph Hazzard and grandson of Cord Hazzard of Stretcher's Island, Broadkill Creek, Sussex County, Delaware(who settled in Delaware in 1700).
Served Colonels Haslet and Halls Regiments until March 1778 when he resigned his commission, due to his hearing loss by the bursting of a shell during the attack by the British on Mud Island, below Philadelphia, Pa. in November of 1777.
