TRAVERSE CITY — James Edward Templin Sr., 96, of Traverse City, formerly of Benzonia, passed away Nov. 10, 2006, at the Grand Traverse Pavilions.

Jim was born in Port Carbon, Penn., on July 10, 1910, to William E. and Emma J. (Calf) Templin. On July 17, 1931, Jim married the former Alverna Hand in Maryland.

Jim and Alverna made their way to Benzonia in 1955 making their home there after life in Detroit, while Jim worked for the Ford Motor Company. With the skills Jim received while at Ford, it was no time before he became a master machinist. If Jim wasn't found in his shop tinkering with a machine, busy fabricating a new part, he most likely was enjoying the outdoors and hunting.

Jim was a member of the Lighthouse Church of God until health reasons in recent years brought him and Alverna together to Traverse City.

Jim is survived by his wife of 75 years, Alverna; son, James (Joyce) Templin Jr. of Traverse City; two daughters, Carol Crawford of Beulah and Eleanor (Lee) Henry of Kingsley; 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins and several other loving family members and friends.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, William and Emma; nine brothers and sisters; and a son-in-law, Albert Crawford.

Private graveside services were held at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Commission on Aging or the Salvation Army.
