Helen Ruth Denney, 91, of Midway Street, formerly of Washington Street, died at 12:55 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2004, at Columbus Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born in Brown County Sept. 8, 1913, Mrs. Denney was the daughter of Earle Jacob and Elsie Fern Scaggs Veale.

She married Louis Jackson Denney Nov. 22, 1931, in Brown County.

Survivors include a daughter, Helen Hiebsch of Columbus; sons, Deryl Denney of Shelbyville and Charles Denney of Columbus; sisters, Margaret Veale of Indianapolis and Mae Robertson of Kansas City, Mo.; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on Aug. 23, 1971; sons, Norman and Julian Denney; and a sister, Nettie A. Veale.

Mrs. Denney was a homemaker and a member of First United Methodist Church, Ladies Circle, Modern Matrons Home Extension Club, Hoosier Bells, Antique Club and Bartholomew County Senior Center. She also was past president of Women's Society and was a 1931 graduate of Morgantown High School.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Myers Funeral Service, Hathaway-Myers Chapel on Pearl Street, with the Rev. Steve Kaetzel officiating. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 10 a.m. until service time Friday. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
