He ended his British military career at the rank of Air Vice Marshall. His honors and awards include the Companion of the Order of the Bath, the Commander of the Order of the British Empire, the Distinguished Service Order & Two Bars, the Distinguished Flying Cross & Bar, the Belgian Officer of the Order of Leopold with Palms, the Belgian Croix de guerre, the US Legion of Merit, the US Distinguished Flying Cross, the US Air Medal, and the French Commander of the Legion of Honour.
