He was born in Middletown, NY on February 1, 1920, son of the late Samuel S. Smith and Eva Galloway Smith.
Richard was a self-employed dairy farmer most of his life in Scotchtown until 1987, then in Waterloo, NY. He was a member of the Scotchtown Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Dorothy Bennett Smith at home; 2 daughters, Joyce Johnson & her husband J. William of Snellville, GA and Wendy Weeden & her husband Charles of Scotchtown, NY; 1 son, Brian N. Smith & his companion, Hope Lucas of Waterloo, NY; 9 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Marjorie Puzziferri of Pearl River, NY; many cousins, nieces & nephews.
Richard was predeceased by his son, Gary R. Smith and his brother, S. Lee Smith.
A graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family at Scotchtown Cemetery, Scotchtown, NY
