William served as a Private with the 101 Ohio Infantry Company-A. He enlisted on December 28, 1863. On June 10, 1865 he transferred to the 51 Ohio Infantry Company-A and was discharged on October 3, 1865.

William H. Curtis born August 6, 1838 in Pennsylvania, died December 20, 1914 in Salem Twp., Allegan Co., Michigan. Son of Florely Curtis and Charlotte Shirley. Married 1870 to Caroline C. Lewis, William H. and Caroline C. had five sons, Ford H., Claude E., Ira, William A. and Carl Curtis.
