Larry was born in 1950 in Davenport, to James and Virginia Alexander. He married Georgia on December 14, 1974, in Davenport. Larry worked hard to support his family as a ladle crane operator for 36 years for Cargill North Star Steel, then with Gerdau, Wilton, Iowa, until his illness began in March. In addition to his love for his job, he loved his Iowa Hawkeyes and Pittsburg Steelers football. Before his illness, Larry enjoyed caring for his Shar-Pei dogs and riding his motorcycle.
Survivors include his wife, Georgia; son, Lawrence "Pep" Alexander and daughter-in-law, Laura of Davenport; grandchildren, Mackenzie and Lawrence "Trey"; sister, Suzanne Richman, M.D., and brother-in-law, Don Buccella; niece, Katrina Buccella, and nephew, Nicholas Buccella, all of Fredericksburg, Va.; mother-in-law, Anna (Louis) Possenti of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; aunt, Dorothy Jackson of Medford Leas, N.J.; and cousin, Delana Styres (Dean) Fiadino of Churchville, Pa. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Robert Alexander, D.C., and Virginia Elaine (FitzRandolph) Alexander, grandmother, Elizabeth Styres, and a brother, Richard M. Alexander, D.C.
