Clarence was married to Eunice Horner in 1883 in Burlington Co., New Jersey, and they had five children.

Clarence Coate, one of the most prominent and best known farmers of Burlington county, who died at his home on the Lumberton-Medford road on Monday of last week, was recovering from an attack of pneumonia when appendicitis set in. Due to his age, 76, and a weakened of his heart, an operation was considered to be inadvisable. Deceased was a charter member of Mount Holly Lodge of Elks, officers of which conducted the burial service of the order at his home on Tuesday night. Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. G. Horace Wood, pastor of the Moorestown Baptist Church, with interment in Colestown cemetery.

Deceased is survived by his widow, Eunice Horner Coate; two sons, Armitt H., of Moorestown, who is secretary of the State Bankers' Association, and Charles, who resides on the Coate farm, and two daughters, Mrs. Joseph W. Jones, of Lumberton, and Mrs. Albert Andrews, of Moorestown.
